Westward Ho! PDF Print E-mail

Westward Ho! and the mini have been a great combination over the past years but sadly this may be our last visit. Last year it was estimated that there was 2500 people in Westward Ho! to watch the Minis and Motorbikes leave.

We have never had any problems in Westward Ho! our marshals do a incredible job getting the cars on their way and the spectators who come along to watch are fantastic. No other event of that size would be without a police presence, so we are asking for our police specials back just in case.

The Grand Tour belongs to North Devon it is a community event, here, there and everywhere and it would not be the same if the minis did not travel in a convoy. So we would like help getting across Haywood roundabout. I watched the Lorry convoy go down the A39 with a police escort and saw 8000 motorbike travel down the A38 from Lee Mill into Plymouth.

I have been told that I must apply for a road closure licence to the Highways Authority for the A39, I can see that happening. I don’t think the Motorbikes or Lorries have to. The Police can still use the old Town Police Causes  Act of 1847 section 21 and they still do, when they what to. If they cannot give us help to get out of Westward Ho! then I will move the event away from Westward Ho! to somewhere else and Westward Ho! will be a very quiet place nect year.

We are not looking for any special treatment but if they can escort 40 lorries along the A39 and escort 8000 motorbikes along the A38 both of which do not get road closures, why cannot they help as to get across Haywood roundabout.

Should ever the responsibility of so many spectators become so great for one person then I will have no option but to stop it altogether.

Emma Puckey, Head of Fundraising at Little Bridge House said:

“To say that we are proud to have the support of these intrepid little cars and their dedicated owners would not even come close to expressing our gratitude. Terry & Linda – indeed, the whole crew of the North Devon Mini Register - have become such an important part of our family. They may be small cars, but their hearts are massive. We shall be thinking of you all – keep safe, and enjoy every minute!”

Dartington Crystal 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Just want to say thank you to every one who turned up for Dartington Crystal. The crew members worked as hard as they ever do and Rita & Andrew did an excellent job keeping everyones dogs under control with the Dog Show.

It was a really nice day relaxed and no pressure our trophies were fantastic and went to some really nice minis. Then to top it all we raised £570 for the CHSW, which they have already recieved.

So to every one who turned up "Thank You" for another nice day.
