for residents of soggy torquay this is what the article says!
MINIS WILL BE BACK IN TOWN Minis will be parading in Ilfracombe again next year after councillors agreed to allow Grand Tour cars to park in the town. As one of the best loved charity fund raisers in north devon, the Grand Tour ,which raised around £25,000 this summer, was in jeopardy when NDDC raised concern over safety in Ilfracombe. This year the tour cars parked by the Landmark but the council initially wanted them to relocate to Brimlands on the edge of town. When the councils car park manager raised the safety concerns about the volume of cars however, supporters of the event launched a petition to ensure the tour remained in the centre of town. Now both sides have reached an agreement and the tour, which is on for 3 days in August, will run fron Bid to Ilf with stops in W Ho!,Torrington,Little bridge house and, next year,a day at Killarney Springs,Kilkhampton Tour organiser Terry Baker, said "The minis will be back in ilfracombe. I don't think the council realised just what the Minis were all about but with the public behind us we knew we would be ok" Instead of Brimlands the Minis have been permission to park in the Landmark car park,as they did this year,as well as on an additional grass area by the theatre. Another option available to them is to use Cove car park on the south side of the harbour. The tour will be taking up the first option and terry said "We always wanted to stay where we were. The other car parks are nice but do not have the same facilities and there would be a problem of where we count the money collected" This year organisers were able to use a room in the theatre to count the thousands of pounds collected from well wishers in the town. Steve Wells, the council's head of recycling and commercial services said: "This is a really lovely event that raises lots of money for charity and is extremely popular with local people and visitors .we wish Terry and his colleagues allthe very best for future events" Terry added "We want to thank everyone who backed us especially the people of Ilfacombe, the town council and mayor".
