ok-i'm going to try for a sensible post.....(can't promise though) my brakes squeal like someone doing illegal things to mice, tried a few different pads, copper grease etc but still no luck. can anyone recommend which pads to use?
right on to the sensible bit- have party rings still got gelatine in them? i love 'em but had to give them up when i became veggie. please can one of you addicts read the packet for me and let me know? cheers all
ain't google great. i don't look at the ingredients generally - they scare me. ignorance is definitely bliss!!
locust bean gum? what's that all about
mmm...party rings!!!!! http://www.blowin-tyres.co.uk | http://www.justgiving.com/blowin-tyres Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind Sarcasm helps keep you from telling people what you really think of them There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary and those who don't
Hard pads last longer but they they have a habit of squeling. Soft pads do not last as long but the do not squeal. Try a differant make of brake pad until you find the right one. Could try a rover set if it works let me know. Mine no longer squeal but I cannot remember what make they are.

Don't know anything about Party Rings but thanks to the Normal One's signature piccy at least I know what you are all talking about. It's probably better the less we all know about the ingredients but I think the Hydrogenated Veggy stuff is supposed to be pretty dodgy.
Did a Google on Locust Bean Gum and found - "A hydrocolloid gum obtained by milling the bean kernels of the locust tree, which exists as a tasteless, odorless, white powder composed of galactose and mannose in a complex polymer. It is used for coating textiles; as a thickener and binder in glues, pastes, and latex; in leather finishes; and in sizings for yarn and paper. It is also used along with guar gum as a wet-end additive during papermaking, as feed for animals, and in jellies and bakery products." So now we know.
My favourite though was the scientific study which found that "the addition of locust bean gum to a nutrient semisolid meal has a major impact on gastric emptying by delaying the emptying rate".
With that I think that I'd better move on to brake pads pretty quickly!
We don't do enough miles to worry too much about how long the pads last. We've been using Green Stuff for a while and they've been fine and haven't squealed at all. I can't remember having probs with the Rover ones we had before but the Green Stuff seemed to put less dust onto the wheels than Rover.
We tried Black Stuff this time as the story was that they might be better for our sort of use than the green ones as they don't need to be so warm to work effectively. They haven't squealed either......... but they did start to smell a bit whiffy when they got hot on one of the downhill stretches between Lee Abbey and Ilfracombe on the GT.
Never had anything like that before so I doubt that we'd get them again. It may be because we've got an autobox so are heavier on the brakes than someone with a proper gearbox might be.
yes-far too sensible!! thanks for the advice-will try some soft pads i think,i don't do that many miles. mines an auto as well so i know what you mean about the braking!
heh heh am loving the 'major impact on gastric emptying' i find curry has the same effect.............
i have just tried to do a quiz, after work of course on gingers. And not the crumbly kind. i will ask a technofobe, Nikki where are you about seeing if I can post it on here for yoall.
