Our Mini went into Wood & Pickett this week and has been stripped in preparation for a major refurb so it'll be a different car you see (and hear) next year.

We taking a couple of cars down to W&P tomorow to pick up the old bits as we're selling them off at a Southern MOC auction night next week, with all our proceeds going towards our LEJOG/NDGT 2006 fundraising.

The Governor will be relieved to know that the musical horns are going too and won't be replaced, although the truck horn will probably find its way onto the new car.

Please don't sell the horns, the only problen I have is with police sirens I can not argue with the police about them. All the other type of horn I can argue about and get away with. So Red Red Whine won't be the same from now on. That reminds me I will be sending off the Lejog booking forms in the next couple of weeks, if I can remembers who wants to do it, now let me see who was it.

We've got to the stage where we've had enough of the horns, but who knows, we may find another tune that takes our fancy. When we first got them very few people seemed to have them but they are really common nowadays. We sounded them for the last time down at W&P today, and as always Jingle Bells raised a smile.

The whole car is going to be very different, and Red Red Whine will need a new name as it's coming back Volcano Orange. It will have a manual 'box this time - anyone interested in the engine & autobox?

The car looked a bit sorry for itself when we saw it today, and we didn't recognise it at first. It was quite scary how different it looked with the bits stripped off.

As we're true nutcases can we have 2 LEJOG forms please. This time Rita reckons she's going to get all the way to John O'Groats without using reverse gear..............

Lazybones, mu hubbys' mini looks worse than that, he has no doors, front wings, a panels, bonnet windows or boot. The paint has been stripped off with paint stripper and the tinworm holes are getting bigger. Mine went through this last year, its very depressing but take heart that they always come back looking better!!!!(p4_

Thanks, I know it isn't that bad and it'll get worse before it gets better, but it's so different to what it was only a few days before.

From most people's point of view the car was probably fine as it was but it was getting tired and we wanted to do something before the rot got too bad. It was the first car that we bought new, but you can't do that any more and as you say it'll come back looking a lot better.

Red Red Whine will need a new name as it's coming back Volcano Orange.

It'll be back from the paint shop in the next couple of days so we had to choose a name and it's............

                                                           Krakatoa

I know there's a programme on tv tonight about Krakatoa, but we had pretty well settled on the name already.

Krakatoa will need to be built up in the next week or so ready for L2B. Driving it will be interesting as although we have owned Minis for something like 18 of the last 25 years neither of us has ever driven one with a manual gearbox.

Thanks folks.

Rita's has always wanted a Volcano Orange Mini ever since she first saw the colour. The worry when you have work done is that it won't turn out quite how you expect but we're happy so far.

They are still working on it! There are bound to be a few bits not done, but we hope to be on L2B on Sunday. If the Wood & Pickett crew are asleep at Brighton you will know why.

I haven't seen it since I took the photo of the shell last Saturday but Rita has been down a couple of times. She spent most of the day there yesterday and fielded a few phone calls to let them get on.

The signwriter did his stuff while she was there. Apparently he just marked out a box with masking tape and painted the names and coachlines on freehand.

They were working on it until 1am this morning and again today but unfortunately can't get it running. We've always had problems with the immobiliser and it looks as if they have come back to haunt us.

Even if a miracle happened now L2B isn't going to be possible as the car is still SORNed, and isn't taxed or tested.

We're now aiming for Beaulieu. We won't take a new MINI to Brighton but have found an alternative set of wheels so we'll still see you there.

They have now got round the hassles with the the immobilisor that couldn't be remobilised so Krakatoa is finished!

But.............. they can't get him running - now it's problems with the injection system.

Won't run = No MOT = No tax disc = Car still SORNed so it's no Bristol Show for Krakatoa on Sunday.

It's fingers crossed for Beaulieu next week then.

We finally got Krakatoa home on Friday evening. There are still a few things to do so we'll probably let them have him back while we're on LEJOG.

Neither of us had ever driven a Mini with a manual gearbox before so that has been quite an adventure. Compared with the other other cars we drive you have to really rev it to get it moving and I had no idea how to get it into reverse. That caused a bit of fun when I got home and nearly overshot our garage as the car doesn't turn so tightly as in the old days and I needed to go backwards.

When Rita collected her prize at Beaulieu today she was asked to drive into the arena and refused to drive as far forward as they wanted her too. She told Mike Cooper that she doesn't do reverse gear - hope she remembers that on LEJOG......

I really can't believe what we have gone and done - Rita used to say that she wouldn't want a Mini with bonnet stripes, big arches and spotlamps!

Thanks. We are very definitely pleased to have him back.

The air horns are gone - we sold them in aid of CHSW - and at the moment the only horn is a very weedy standard Mini horn.

When we first had the musical horns hardly anybody had them but over the years they have caught on and nearly everybody seems to have them so they aren't really different any more.

The truck horn isn't on the car yet - if it does go back on it'll be somewhere discreet but I have a feeling that it will get sold too.

Tea urn - at least if the car's LHD you can see the kerb more easily so you shouldn't scrape the wheels.

i have to disagree! there wasn't ANY mini quite as loud as yours. i still remember marshalling the GT the other year, and still being deaf 10 minutes after Rita had passed!! it was FANTASTIC!
