ive put new pads and shoes on the van, got fast road/trackday pads on the front and normal ones on the back, however it doesnt want to stop like it used to, feels a bit dead until you stamp on it and then you slide off the road.

ive bled the brakes up, any other suggestions?

What are the disks like?? Cos my dad had a similar problem on his Audi and it was caused by groves in the disks.

It could be that one of the calliper pistons is seized, then only one side is braking so it pull the car in one direction??

Or possible the tracking is out??

Apart from that I cant think of anything else.

Well the cheaper option would be the repair job, all you would need is new pistions and seals, about £10.

But the 4pots would be nice.

it could be both, or it might not be an a series at all.

definately isnt a vtec or a vauxhall engine, and it has no pistons as such.

well done!

it should fit although i have no idea yet. will try it out in a scrap shell before cutting the van up, although im helping a mate build a subaru powered mini, 4wd etc.
we are using a subaru legacy estate to start with, when we get bored with it the impreza turbo lump will then be bolted in. should be fun although i have no idea how it will handle!

will do. so far we have cut the top off the subaru, and the floor out of the mini. obviously we jigged the mini shell to stop it twisting. just need to shorten the subaru a bit, then lower the mini on top, weld it on the subaru floorpan, build a bulkhead, cut out and build wheelarches, paint it, fit the dash, build a wiring loom, fit the insides, although we may end up chopping the roof and deaseaming it, make sure it works, put it through an SVA test and we'll have a 4wd mini. hopefully.

so far its cost £20 for some welding wire and gas. if it goes to plan and we learn to weld properly! it shouldnt cost much more than £200

although theres the big chance of getting carried away. got all the stuff, a fairly sound mini with a shot floorpan for nothing, found a subaru legacy in a scrappy and managed to get that for free. dents in every panel but a good engine and it drives ok.

put it simply:
cut floor out of mini.
cut top off subaru.
weld the two together.
jobs a goodun.

wish it was as easy as that though. hopefully it will be finished by january 2008 lol

If you are shortening the subaru the rear drive shaft is gonna be the wrong length and that gonna be costly to get it shortened.

with 130bhp that gonna be quick.

Good idea. The last thing you want is a drive shaft ripping through the floor.

basically chop the shaft in half, cut a slot out of one end, shorten the other end so it fits, but leave enough to make a peg to fit in the slot. slot them together, drill through so a pin can be pushed through and weld the two halves together

Should be ok, it depends weather it is balanced or not. The best way to check if it’s balanced or not is put it in a lave and spin it at a low speed and then increase speed gradually.

i deal with a company through work who do that sort of thing. £40 for straightening and balancing a driveshaft, so thats going to be something that someone else will do. were trying to do as much by ourselves as possible, using parts from srcappers and dumped cars.
