Ever since my disastess Stereo fitting attempt my mini has also been couging a bit.

I dont think its miss firing, but i could be wrong. In order to get to the wiring of which comes through from inside into the engine bay I took off my air filter and then thought while i was at it i could give the dash pot a bit of a clean, there seem to be some cracks in it!? perhaps stupidly I also opened the dash pot and pulled the - thingy??? - out to have alook at that.

I put everything back as I found it but since then it seems to struggle and then sort of suddenly gets going again. its a bit like it need more choke except that it shouldnt. Also i have noticed that the engine temp is not quite reaching the happy halfway mark (plus my wife said it smelt a bit petroly, but she might have imagined that!)

Another thing that might be worth a mention is that I had run the petrol tank to almost empty, could it be a problem with the fule jets? fuel line? e.g. blocked? I have since put in some redx tank cleaner but with little to no effect.

I was thinking tonight I would check the spark plaugs as well to eliminate that.

So does anyone know much about carbs? Have I maybe done something stupid to mine? messed up the needle setting?? I have no idea really?

If no one has any ideas about the carb where do people take there mini's when they are feeling not too good? Is Mainly minis good? I normally use PH motors but he isn't a mini specialist.

Cheers Dom - Any help very greatfully recieved!

found this on the net

Quoted Text
In the case of carburetters fitted with dampers the oil should be filled to a level just below the top of the hollow piston rod, so that when the damper is fitted it does not displace the oil any higher than the top of the piston.

Hi thanks for that. But i have just tried topping up the carb oil and no joy. I have a feeling it may be linked to the reason why the engine is not getting quite up to temperature??? the problem is worst when excellerating its feels liek it is holding back?? if that makes any sense?? i am going to go and check the spark plugs next.

Spends more time keeping the minis warm than working on them.

when my Minis go there its hard to get them to come home it so warm and cosy
Alma went there because of a strange noise and in order to stay there decided to let go of her two front wheels anD spent a happy 10 days on her holidays ---she is sulking now in a cold Garage at her home so is deciding to leak some oil
probably because she wants to go back well at least untill it is warmer

sometimes my mind not only wanders it goes off on its own
