After the lovely mini run on Sunday and having been behind Flo's mini i thought to myself that i would go home and take off the tatty trim which goes around my roof (having noted that on Flo's mini it looked pretty cool without one).
Boy what a can of worms i have opened, on what appeared to be an otherwise pretty much minimal rust mini i have found were it has all been hiding. In some places there is no lip at all.
What is a boy to do??? i have sanded and filed it all down, having gained great rust repair experience on my horrible old fiesta! But the problem that i am left with is that the metal on the lip is too thin to replace with body filler, but if i put the trim back on i suspect it will continue to be a haven for moisture and rust.
Is this a common rust spot on minis? How have other people gotten round this? My mini seems to be ageing in a completely different time zone to me!?!
Now you know why there are so many mini convertibles around.

Sorry to say this but I have just taken off Arthur's old roof trim to put on a chrome effect one and apart from finding some dirt I wiped him off and he is perfect all the way round!!! SORRY!!! I just had to mention it!!!!

lol deseaming is a horrible job i helped someone do it before. i'd get some paint on the bare metal asap so that it wont rust (as quick) until you ecide what to do.

Well i dont really think that de-seaming spud is an option, unless sticky back plasic and enthusiasm will do in the place of any welding skills!
Spud had yet another miss-hap today when i was merily driving home on the old barnstaple road. I was joyfuly taking in all the twists and turns when i came round a bend only to be faced with a pheasant, now i should point out that in my mind it was about 4-5 foot tall, but it may not have actually been that big!
Needless to say the stupid thing made no attempt to move and so consequently went straight under the car with a thud. luckily i managed to aim it away from under the wheels.
I now have a smashed number plate. My sump has an oil drip (although it may have always had that?!?) and there is a dazed pheasant sat in hedge near westeigh.
