Hi all,
this is my first post on here, i bought my Mini last week and have been checking it all over.
Ideally i want to get some of it rewired. the wiring is abit shoddy. and the indicators + Radio are very temperamental. as well as some of the dash lights.
i am finding it hard to locate any help with the wiring. like which wires are which for a start.
i am assuming that the wiring loom will be taken from the metro that the engine came from? and not the standard mini loom.
regards

Hello, and welcome. I'm no expert, but in my experience, engine swaps would not include wiring loom swaps too. I've found the Haynes Manuals pretty good on the wiring front. Has your indicator switch got three wires: Light Green/Brown, Green/Red and Green/White - Green/Red going to the left (front & rear) and the Green/White going to the right.

it would use a mini wiring loom rather than the metro loom, as both engines are the same so makes sense to use whats already in the car.
the haynes manual is quite useful once you get your head round the wiring diagrams. unfortunately im not that good with electrics so im probably not the person to ask! |

Would recommend you replace both the inline & main fuse box with a blade type fusebox mounted under the dashboard. The inline fuses tend to corode & it's always the one thats most inaccessable to get to Done it to ours a few years back & never had a problem with the electrics since. |

Theres a man in Bideford who might be your best bet, but heres a few points for you to consider
Only use mini wiring looms, replace bullet connectors where posible, corrosion plays a major part with any wiring fault in a mini, so check connections and replace as necessary.
Haynes manual is a must, but make sure you use the correct wiring diasgrams for your car and the correct key for the wiring diagram.. with your indicators don't forget to check earth connections, a poor earth can send them do dally..
all the best, hope you rectify the snags.. |

Are the traffic jams the result of the whisky? |
