Our new mini (1999 MPi Sportpack), keeps catching the exhaust on speed ramps, do they have stalilisers fitted to the gearbox, as the exhaust seems to move around a lot, (after fitting the stainless rear box) is it worth changing the front section to the Cat, has anyone else had the same problem, if so any suggestions on the solutions

Is it centtre or original side exit? How many other stabilisers are fitted and where? I've seen minis with the front one missing?

they do move about more than other minis exhausts as there is a flexible section in the exhaust, might be worth putting new exhaust rubbers on if the exhaust catches as they might have stretched. mine catches all the time on speed bumps, as the cat is right in the middle of the car its going to get bashed about if youre not careful.
there should be a stabilizer fitted to the front of the gearbox, so if its missing it may be worth getting one (i think minispares sell them). check the stabilizer bushes on the top and bottom bars as they may be worn, if you can shake the engine about then they need replacing.

Thanks for that, the exhaust is a side exit, I've just replaced it for a large bore S/S to the Cat, I've fitted new rubber mounts on the back, I will have to check the front to see if there is a gearbox stabiliser, if not it will be Minispares early Monday morning, I may get some Hi-Los to lift the front slightly, but the Cat just seems so low any ramp it just scraps over it, thanks again

We fitted Hi-Los to ours after the entire exhaust was ripped off on a speed hump
