When I came home the other day a mouse scurried across the kitchen floor. I set a catch it live trap and I have been leaving a trail of food to it which Domino has eaten most of. I'm jumpy when I'm in the kitchen, I'm not scared of mice but don't want one round my feet.

We were just in our lounge and the mouse ran in past the cat who had a little go at playing with it but Domino ran the other direction. By the time I decided what to catch him in it had disappeared.................. so now I don't know where he is.

I know I was thinking of another pet but this is not what I expected.

I'm sure if Jess (my ) came face to face with a mouse she wouldn't know what to do - she's a very wussy pussy - tho she did actually catch a field mouse in the back garden when I first moved in here, but she is getting on a bit now and spends most of her time curled up on my bed

I've just given Domino a brush as he rolled and played in some fresh snow and heavy frost this morning. Smoky the cat likes a brush as well but his fur pushes the bristles in so I've got him something that he is loving.....the most effective grooming thing you can use on a cat. I bought it in a hardware store, it cost 99p and is a junior hacksaw blade on a handle!

We used to recommend this tool when I worked at a vets' when I left school. What's good is, it only takes out the loose dead hair and the edge of the blade is "raspy" like a cats tongue. Smoky loves it and he then leaves less fur on our clothes. Try it, trust me.

I'll try that on our Jasper, he hates being brushed and I usually end up being bitten and scratched

Must be a January thing. Late last night, when I went into the kitchen, a fair sized mouse ran across the kitchen working surface and dropped down behind the oven. Last January he was seen on the floor and during the year I have sensed a few signs in cupboards but was not keen to really find him. He's dodging the live traps, I think I might have to put poison down behind the oven, away from dog and cat. I hate the thought of killing him (or her) but not happy with it running across the units.

Can anyone suggest anything that works? Not a trap.

You can get humane traps which doesn't kill them, & digestive biscuits are better bait than cheese.

Alternatively you can borrow our cat, Wicksie, he's being catching rats just lately, but I'm sure he still have a mouse given the opportunity
