Having had a "panic attack" for no known reason doc sent me for an ECG and blood tests.
My cholesterol came back at 7.3 which is a bit high, but for 6 months I've been controlling my food intake so they might put me on statins to help reduce.
My blood pressure has been quite high too so today I start a course of tablets to lower that. They make you wee more so I'll take that at teatime not want that when I'm on driving lessons!
I did open my ECG results on the bus but I waited for the doctor's view. It says clearly I could have a heart attack........hmmm. I'm quite a calm person. not really a stressful job, certainly not physically demanding but I am overweight and I'm thankful I have begun to address that, mainly to help my knees.
In my favour, I don't smoke or drink, do not take in extra salt and show no signs of chest pain or breathing difficulty so I'm deemed low risk.
The ECG is going to a specialist to see if drugs can help. My father had heart problems but lasted 'til 72 but it was heart related surgery which contributed to his demise.
I'm ok about my results, I am 55 and needed an MOT. I would rather have a heart condition than a lot of things.
Sounds as though you're doing all the right things - to be honest I've been on tablets for high blood preaaure for ages now. You just make sure you follow instructions, we want you around for along time Rita
sue has been on a course of blood presure tablets and they do what they say on the tin she had to make a dash for the loo on the lgt . after the course was finished she has tests every six mts and so far has not had to go back on to them
well Rita, it could be a lot worse, but now you have this info, you can address the issues, as i also have problems with the weight department, i wish you luck, its one thing to lose it and another to keep it off. if you ever find the secret, let me know. i have blood pressure tablets, cant say that they make me wee anymore, (may be we should do a poll on this ! ) may i wish you, health, wealth, and happines, and enjoy life. in other words. dont worry x

I've always thought that there's absoltuely no point in having any tests unless you're prepared to take notice of the results and do something about it. From what you say, you're doing precisely the right things, so "Well done you!" Personally I have no experience of any of the symptoms/medication that you have, however Mrs. J. has been on blood pressure tablets for a couple of years now, with no effect on her "waterworks." You're also right when you say that there's a lot worse things to have wrong with you. I firmly believe we all have something in every one of us that's our weak point, and when it gets triggered, we get ill. For some it's serious, for some, it's a warning. Sounds like this is your warning, Rita, so carry on doing the right thing and I'll see you at LGT 2039!!

All the best,

Can you picture us all in our 80s still doing Grand Tour. There would have to be a prize for best mobility ideas. I can see Terry with a zimmer frame up and down the prom!

My god, if I took blood pressure pills I'd have to walk about with a loo strapped to my behind!!! Mind, I have panic attacks and suffer from over active nerves, I take beta blockers to try and stay a bit calmer. I am what my mum calls 'a born worrier' and my body has ways of telling me that I'm taking things a bit seriously. But if stress is the worst I suffer from then I'll be ok.
Keep up the good work Rita and hope you stay well, looking forward to seeing you and Andrew soon as havent seen you yet this year....

We'll see you in Devon at the end of the month and we'll be at Worthing the following weekend. I think we have only been to 2 Mini events this year - London to Brighton and Dartington Crystal. We would probably have gone to Beaulieu too but it clashed with the Bromley Pageant, which IMHO is a far nicer day.

I've learned to take them late afternoon so I can do what I need to before bedtime! Like you out on the road, nice loos for ladies are not easy to find but at least I can park my MINI on a garage forecourt easier than you can your truck.
As I sit opposite Andrew he is replying to our mini activity this year.

I was going to buy one specifically for LGT and that Landkey stop because it was agony a few years ago. I saw them on This Morning and Phil and Fern were in fits as the blue simulated wee went all over the manaquin. The Crane hire boys at my works made me one, its a 4 pint milk bottle with the bottom cut out and the top removed, bit uncouth!!!
I had to go to the hospital today. I had an echocardiogram which is an ultra sound reading of the 4 chambers of the heart. I could hear it working(promising). Then I had to have an exercise stress test. They wire you up, take your blood pressure every 3 minutes and get you walking on the treadmill! Not ever having used one I was surprised how quick you have to get and how uphill it gets. After nearly 7 minutes I was in pain with my knees and very puffed. I asked to abort. It took 15 minutes to settle down afterwards.
I had another episode of chest pain last sunday that lasted 2 hours. They told me I should have gone to A&E and must if it happens again. I see the consultant in 2 weeks. I gave myself the rest of the day off to rest my knees. And I'm only 55.
The echocardiogram came back as ok but the readings taken whilst on the treadmill suggested problems and concerns.
I now wait for an appoinment to spend a day at St. Georges Tooting to have an angiogram which is invasive. They put catheters in your arteries and take photos. They sedate you as you have to lay still for bouts of 45 minutes and afterwards you have to stay there for 3 hours in case you have a bleed!?
I told the cardiologist that I opened the ECG results on the bus and saw that I might have a heart attack. He smiled at me and showed it to me and explained that it was a historical suggestion that I had had a heart attack! I thought that day was a simple panic attack and remember I went out for a drive. Because I'm only 55, a non smoker or drinker and working on my weight he will help me as much as he can.
He has put me on statins, beta-blockers and given me a tablet to put under my tongue if that sudden chest pain comes on.
I wonder if they'll feed me. I think I'll come off my diet that day and take a stack of sweets.
If they pick you up you'll rattle by the sounds of it - sweets sound like a good idea tho', keep your mind off of things - I'd put on half a pound last night, only got about six or seven pounds to go till I get to target it'll probably take me forever You take care Rita and look after yourself
It must be really hard to get rid of those last few pounds and imagine trying to stay at target. At our club we were introduced to a new pot noodle type of thing called mugshots. They are very nice but although I lost one pound I think it would have been more if I had resisted pasta. It sticks to me like glue.
Oh yes we've known about mugshots for a while but I'm not that keen on them to be honest, it would be nice if I could get to target before Christmas but I think it will take a miracle at the rate I'm going
Well I've got a date of tuesday 15 december for a day at St. Georges. I have to be there for 7.30 and cannot eat after 5 am! I'll be setting my alarm early to get my scrambled eggs on toast in and hopefully out!
I have to drink 3 litres of water afterwards to get rid of the dye they inject but you can't move so they give you urinals. I'll have to improve my aim.
Andrew has just had his cholesterol test back 2.9. Beats my 7.3 but I'm on statins now
Well I am all ready for my angiogram tomorrow but I've just come home to a message saying they have a beds shortage so it's cancelled. They can do it next week but Andrew is off and we had quite a lot planned.
The annoying bit is I've had to clear my diary for the next 3 days as you can not drive for 48 hours after. Does the NHS cover loss of earnings?

The hospital offered me monday, tuesday or wednesday next week but I opted fot the new year Jan 5th. I'd already booked that week out with pupils so opened up the 3 days between Christmas and new year instead. Hope my husband is understanding when I don't put a lot of money on the table.
Domino and me had a nice day today looking for a Christmas tree. We normally buy real but I found myself looking at some very attractive artificial trees.

We've got a real one just outside the front door, and a make believe one in the lounge. Dog lies under it on fake presents/stocking that are filled with wadding.
R. ps. Sorry to hear the NHS are playing "Silly Bu&&ers" with your appointment Rita - but I suppose it's because they have an urgent case in the bed you were going to use, and they don't think you are in urgent need. Don't blame you for going for the New Year. Fingers croosed for 5th. Jan.
We had a real one last year for the first time.... what a mess! We're now back to our artificial ones in the lounge and the snug and my little Winnie the Pooh one in my room.

I haven't got either as the one time i tried it the cats destroyed it in about 2 minutes. And Ronnie in particular has a penchant for eating plastic (especially carrier bags), so I don't want to fuel his bad habits!!

we have had a fake tree for the past 4 years after Hoovering up needles of a real one untill the Summer not to mention all the needles that used to ping off in the car on the way to the recycling centre
our Cats are very well behaved and dont seem all that interested thank goodness
sometimes my mind not only wanders it goes off on its own
iv always had a real tree - never ever had issues with needles!! Not here this christmas soooo we have only a few decs up also didnt know how we were going to cope with a tree and doug we have lights everywhere thou which is nice. and a small fiber optic tree on the table
Thats the same thing that happened to my mum rita she'd booked days off work for her angiogram thing and got there and it was cancelled - not great concidering dad had booked time off work ect frustrating. She had to go private in the end the waiting around wasnt ideal. Take care rita
Dont worry doug has learnt when were out if he wees under the chairs no one will notice, left the pub and was like whats that under there, and also in the vets does a wee under the chairs, only issue is with his loo issues he doesnt fully know when hes stopped sooo carried on weeing when walking.
Oh Rita, sorry to hear that you havent been able to get a conclusion yet. I had to cancel my ENT clinic date cos I got flu, had booked that day off esp to go to the clinic and do christmas shopping, typical. I dont get paid to be sick either so had a few weeks of short money. Did get a new date pretty quick though, just waiting to see if I am allergic to something when I go back in January.
Fake tree for me, a little one I bought from woolies when I first left home. My cat leaves it be, she is 11 or so now so cant be bothered, the little one always found the tree baubles fun, but she is sadly no more. We had a real one many years ago and didnt get rid of the needles for years, cheap carpet in the rented house.
Back to Christmas trees. Domino and I have just been to a more local garden centre and they were selling off their display trees. I bought a half tree that goes flat against the wall which I thought was a good idea. It was marked up at £49. I bought a few more bits including the pigs ear Domino had in his gob. I was surprised when she said £47.86 so I kept quiet enjoying more of a bargain. When I got home and looked at the receipt the cashier had given me OAP discount!!!!!!!

i take this all back we came back today to find a present pulled out from under the tree a corner chewed off to reveal bit of the item inside.
It was one i had wrapped up for one of the Boys Cats it contained a orange Goldfish on a string attached to a stick (obviously not a real Goldfish!!!) How did they know what was inside??????
By the way i have also wrapped up some spagetti for my Sisters Chickens they love it cooked and she says they are very funny when two chickens eat from different ends the same strand
sometimes my mind not only wanders it goes off on its own
It was angiogram day today. I got up at 4.30 to have my breakfast before 5. I was very impressed with the treatment I received. It was a full theatre job but you're awake. I spent an hour in recovery and then 4 hours flat on my back not being allowed to move the right leg where they had put the catheters in the artery in the groin.
The results showed no blocked areries leading to the heart which was good. Keep on the medication and see the specialist in 6 weeks.
In 3 weeks that I've been on statins, my cholesterol has gone down from7.3 to 3.8.
I think that it is all good news so how do you feel.

A bit sore and stiff. The worst bit was having a needle like thing protruding from my left arm vein. I can't drive or bath for 48 hours and have to rest leg. Domino was actually pleased to see me when I came home!

well the disadvantage of working from home all the time is there is no excuse to have a day off because of snow... haven't got to go to sturry tomorrow though, and i'm up on my hours so i may have time to play a little!

hehehe - i luf the snow but we've not seen all the snow just yet - WAHOOO
Good to hear your tests ect are happening - luckily the didnt effect anything - take care of yourself and hope your feeling 100% and all betterer soon!!
U'll be pleased to know Rita Dougie wasnt happy about walking in the snow - he scooped a load up in his cone, felt the cold and ran to the back gate almost pulling me over, sooo we've stayed at home and drove down the unsnowy beach for a run around which was much better. Another thing - Dougie has been diagnosed with Liver Problems - which is the reason for him having little weight gain and inability to eat and poop. We are visiting the vets regulary for tests to keep an eye on it as they dont want to give such a young doggy medication just yet. However Doug has been given prozac/ritalin to support his behaviour program we are doing and to help control his obsessive behaviours first tablet today and he's got his cone off and seems really setteled. He is on a low dose and wont be taking it for long but he gets himself into such a pickle over things. It just soooo nice to know Doug has a reason for his behaviour, its not nice having a dog with a medical condition but at least we know whats wrong and can ensure his life is a good one.
Not good news about Dougie which is a shame. Heidi had liver problems but kept steady on drugs and diet. She made liver stones instead of kidney stones. You'll get nowhere but keep the breeder in touch. Nice he's got his cone off.
Domino reluctantly let me put a "sweater" dog coat on him but it's a bit tight. It covers his dinkle so is not very savoury by the time we get home.
Oh no i bet that its not nice by the time your home. we are currently trialing special diets the first diet we are on isnt working yet but we have to give it another week before going on anything else.
Good news on Cholesterol Rita. How's about the Blood Pressure? Angiogram sounded a bit not nice.
All the best,
R.
Blood pressure coming down too. I had another episode of chest pain last night. Nowhere as bad as the one in Bideford Park park on LGT. I used my under the tongue spray and it went after 5 minutes but I was scared to go to sleep. It feels just like indigestion/hunger but chest tightens and breathing becomes laboured. As on two previous occasions, came on after a little doze and the pain thankfully wakes me.
