When the money was being counted on Monday afternoon we made a mistake and counted Sundays Checks twice. Sundays cheques  came to £6415, we have never made a mistake like that before but we do work under extreme pressure trying to get a total that you can go home with. It would not be the same going home without knowing how much we have all raised. That's the first time in all the years we have been doing this event that we have got it wrong.

It is just one of the nightmares that people like me have to live with. I check everything before I fill in the paying in slips and I counted the cash 3 times and it was spot on. So I had to call the team in to go through the paper work, that's when we found the error.

Yesterday I paid into the CHSW bank £16,366 in cash. Today I am going to take £9612 to the CHSW in cheques plus I am going to pay in a further £305 into the Children's Hospice account. I will let you add it up I have counted
enough money this week

As we have always said this years Grand Tour is a practice for next years and as per normal when we make mistakes we put it right for next year and we will.

If anyone would like a copy of the mistake in the paper work please e-mail me and I will send you a copy.

Not to worry we'll soon get that figure in with sponsorship still to come in. We did well considering the financial climate outside.

The counting team must work under extreme pressure. More people should give you their sponsorship in as they check in.

Maybe we try too hard to count the dregs of money......

Since Terry phoned to give me advance warning of this post, I've gone over and over in my mind the preparation of the final total figure - which I gave Terry to read out to you all. I'm confident I know what happened, and have discussed both it, and solutions, with Terry.
All I can do at this stage is to apologise for my part in the misunderstanding which resulted in the wrong information being imparted.

R.
ps. Rita is right - we don't count & bag the bronze, but perhaps we should do the same with 5's, 10's & 20's, as these will have minimal effect on the total collected, and reduce the pressure on the team at Ilfracombe.

Richard you do not have to apologise or worry, no one ever has to apologise about the LGT and I do the worrying for everyone, we are a team all of us and without people like you who put so much effort in making this beast we call the LGT work, there would not be any LGT. No one controls the LGT, it controls us, every year 300 minis swarm to westward ho!, sometimes the beast is a mile long sometimes it is 3 miles or more long and some times things go wrong that is the nature of the beast. We do what few people in the world can do, no other event in the world has a beast like ours.
Over the past 15 years I have given my heart and soul to the LGT and it has broken both loads of times. I no longer worry about those people that want to moan, let them , I will listen to them and take note but i normally never invite them back. Some people want to tell you how it should be done but are unwilling to give up 2 years of their life let alone 15 to learn how it is done. Next year we will take out 300 minis and as we get rid of those people that feel they have to moan, every year the beast will get better and better.
Until someone becomes part of the team they will never know how much pressure we are under and how easy mistakes can be made, lets not forget l make loads of mistakes every year but no one notices, except if you take everyone througth Lynton the wrong way.
So no apologies and I thank you for he work you do in making the beast we call the LGT one of the best mini events in the country or even maybe the world. You did not make any mistakes the team made the mistake and next year we will try and make sure it does not happen again.
So I thank you and everyone else who work so hard to make the beast such a fantastic event.

Terry

PS thats not quite true, when I get home I will let you know just how much silver we did collect as it was quite a lot and would make a differeance to the amount.
We are going to buy a new coin sorter as the one we borrowed had a mind of it's own and money checker which should speed things up. But we should remember we didn't have a problem with the cash we counted only with some cheques being added twice.

As previously posted it's still a great amount raised in the current economic climate.
Not to forget the smiles we put on the faces at LBH, if only for a few minutes, what price can you put on that.

I completely agree, I have enough trouble getting my money to tally up.

No-one in the small cars crew has to apologise, they give up their time to help the best mini run of the year!! and I can't wait until next year..

We haven't got much money so it does not take long to count. And those that we owe money to write to us to remind us how much we owe them.
