Looks like I'm going to have to replace the rubber dounuts this winter & was wondering if anyone had tried either the new Moulton Smootha ride dounuts or even gone over to coil springs. I'm tempted by the PL Mini Coil spring conversion as it should last alot longer than rubber dounuts but I'm hearing mixed reports about going over to springs. Any thoughts |

if you want to go for springs, get the fast road or race ones from minitastic, they're the only ones that seem to work. I got mine from huddersfield mini spares, and everyone on last years lejog got quite a few lungs full of my tyres! the fronts have collapsed, and the rears are too soft so any weight in the back and the tyres scrub. a mate fitted the mini tastic springs, and theyre so much better. Ive got a set of uprated rubber cones from mini spares to fit, cost a fair bit but theyre well recommended. |

Thanks for that. Spoke to a few people at Stanford Hall yesterday & got very contrasting views on them, either best thing since sliced bread or avoid like the plague Still unsure what way I'll go, I'll dig out the receipt for the existing dounuts & see how long they've lasted, probably longer than I thought. If I do go for fast road springs I'll let you know what they're like. |

the fast road ones seem to be what is recommended by the people who like them. not too soft, but not hard enough to break your spine. might have to nick the race ones off my mates mini when he isnt looking! |

Ive got a set of uprated rubber cones from mini spares to fit, cost a fair bit but theyre well recommended.
They made quite a difference when I fitted them to the front, and they work really well with the alloy hubs I fitted. Handling and ride are greatly improved - I had a few weeks with the old cones and new hubs, so I had a chance to compare. I went for the road ones, rather than the race ones. Will probably upgrade the rears, I think they're about due. They're starting to sag and the arches are taking a pounding on some uneven roads... |
