Well to be honest it's not the computer but my broadband   According to Sky there is a problem at the exchange and as of 3pm yesterday I had no computer access ad no phone either.  After a couple of quite long phone calls (on the mobile of course ) I've discovered if I unplug the modem and just have the phone plugged in I can at least have contact to the world but if I plug the modem in as well I get nothing at all.  Evidently they're working on it   - I'm not holding my breath tho'.  I shall be expecting a rebate on my bill after this I can tell you    Have had to resurrect the mobile broadband - and that has not been straight forward either

Had a similar problem with Orange this time last year. Got so fed up of phoning India & speaking to someone who didn't speak English & couldn't help as the problem wasn't on their list of answers that I cancelled the contract & swapped to BT.

I'm now on yet another computer - Nigel has been waiting in all day for his kitchen equipment to arrive and guess what? it hasn't   He's had to take the boys home to feed them and put them to bed, so now I'm round at his flat hoping it's gonna turn up soon so that I can go back home.  For the record the snow has gone tho' it's still a bit slippery underfoot.  So goodness knows what their excuse is for not delivering between 8 and 12 as they promised

Seems strange that your phone stops when you plug the router in. Have you tried changing the microfilter?

Oh well, guess you'll have to wait for them to rectify the problem at the exchange.

Let's hope it's soon.

Media customer!

And the connection between the wireless router they suppplied to me, and my computer is fine for 99.9%% of the time. However, periodically the connection is "up & down like a lady of the night's undergarments!" When this happens, I too have the pleasure of conversing with someone with whom language is a barrier. We go through the 1. Re-boot. 2. Move any cordless phones 3. Move the router nearer to the computer etc etc. Then they speak to their supervisor and come back on to tell me to change the channel through which I connect to the router - and all is fine for a few weeks/months, until the joyous roundabout starts again!

Happy days.

Woo hoo! I've finally got my broadband back   Sky sent me a questionaire about how well they handled the problem - needless to say I wasn't very complementary about the service (or lack of) that I received

Nice to have you back. The board has been VERY subdued. Thought triffids had got hold of everyone. What's everyone doing for New Year?  We've got New Years Day Parade friday and a quiet night in before, just the two of us (and Domino!). A nice meal and a little drink.

I'm not doing anything - it will still be 2010 when I wake up whether I go to bed at 11, 12, or whatever, I just can't be bothered to stay up
