When we get our invite to attend Grand Tour I try each year to beat my own record of opening, reading the rules signing it, writing cheque and envelope and for a change getting up to the corner of the road where the pillar box is, quicker than Domino. My best is 11 minutes.

Shock , horror last night. There was a notice on the pillar box saying they are moving it along the road. Another 3 minute walk. What can I do? Do you think they might have a re-think if I tell them why I need it close.

you've got over a year to train - maybe you can add in the longer trip to the letterbox and match your previous best?

Knowing Royal Mail as I do.......    They will just move it regardless of anything!    For example I went out on my collection round about 5 months ago and was approaching Goodleigh (we go through for the grand tour) the box was always outside the post office but that had closed down some weeks beforehand......  Because the box was half in the hedge you didnt see it until u were up close......  I come down the hill like I had done for the past 12 years and pulled up to the box!!!!!!!!!!!  Got the key and got out my van..... with key in hand went to the box........  only to find it wasnt there............... for a moment it didnt register........... I thought wheres the box someone has knicked it!!!!!!   I stood and thought they could have given me a bit of a clue as to where it was now located..........  I felt a right plank!!  (nuffin new there ) So then had to go looking for said box!!!!!  There was no notice and they didnt even tell me..........!!!!!!!!!!   So all I can say is any hope of it stayin where it is is VERY slim!!!!!!!

How life has changed since I worked on the post office. They even did telegrams when I was there and I had to maintain their bikes along with the other vehicles they had. Morris Minors, Mini Vans, HA Viva vans etc life was exciting then now what have I got.

HA Vivas - that brings back memories.

My parents' first car was a 1965 HA Viva, which I learnt to drive in 10 years later. (As well as a Hillman Imp and Avenger at the driving school.)

Yep, roller skates with Domino on a lead and me shouting "CAT" would probably do the trick.

Jen has had her casts off today,  and is on crutches,  i said i will take them back on our appointment, but told to keep them as they are not aloud to re use them, something to do with heath and safty.
Vic has started her driving lessons and is driving a new mini. next lesson on sunday, and is doing well, and enjoying it.

I'm pleased Jenniffer is progressing. How are you expected to dispose of crutches? What a financial waste.

I thought Victoria must be learning to drive by now. Try to get her in time to do lessons during the day where there are a few more hazards around (like Kev!), sundays can get boring. She'll find it hard to park a real mini after the luxury of power steering. I gave up with Krakatoa and let Andrew drive him now. I just tell him what to do.

When I had crutches I took them back to the hospital - they were placed in an area in the main reception - I was told to return them, don't know what happened to them but this was quite a few years ago now

victoria will be having some lesson during her free periods at collage, so that will help, hopefully. this instructor is willing to pick her up and drop her, where she wants, (with in reason).   first school i rung would not come to our house, he said it was to far from the town.    we want her to learn how to drive, not just, how to pass her test.   wish you where nearer Rita

Yes I wish I did too but she'll be fine, level headed and you guys to guide her.

I had a sad lesson today. 5 years ago I taught Ameera, a 23 year old pakistani girl, very sweet and nervous. It did not help one day close to the aftermath of the July London bombings on a lesson when someone pulled up alongside us and asked me if I was teaching her to be a suicide bomber? Ameera heard and it bothered us both. It scared me a little.

I then taught Ameera's husband and today I started to teach her sister. Having asked how Ameera was I at least was prepared, or was I?

Ameera had a brain tumour diagnosed 2 years ago, she had it removed but it has come back aggressively. Her family were told yesterday she only has weeks... Mercifully she is a little confused and is not aware as to how poorly she really is. When I knocked today, she heard my voice and struggled to get to the hallway. She remembered me and we hugged, she clung to me. They all live together so can help each other but are truely living with the problem. She looked awful, she fits and has had a type of stroke. I did not really know what to say or do but she laughed when I suggested I was open to blackmail to retard her sister of being quicker to learn than her.

Another valuation of life taken on board today.
