I'm thinking of buying a Sat Nav really to see what speed Krakatoa is doing. We have a factory fit one in Andrew's car. Any suggestions what to go for or maybe not go for. I can read a map but I've also got to begin to teach my pupils differently for when the Driving test changes in October.

depends on what feature you want on a sat nav

there's lots to choose from, like bluetooth, speed cameras, points of intrests, voice recognition, FM Traffic, etc

ive got a garmin, and its been brilliant, well built, reliable, and they have been making sat navs since they where invented

really depends on what you want to spend we have a snooper one which is meant for trucks it has built in bluetooth and speed (sorry safety) camara on and also monitors traffic (via subscription) so if there any hold ups you can ask to be re routed round them it wasn't cheap but very good,  If you were think of having a fixed one then the Smart Nav system is very good it does all of the above but you can speak to a person at the end of a phoneline who will send you the route it will also automaticcly reroute you if there are big delays (where as the snooper one you have to do it manually)

Hope this helps

I have a Tom tom  and Michelle has a Garmin - we are both quite happy with them (Michelle likes the Garmin as she can use it on her bike) and I admit I'm on my 2nd Tom tom (I lost the first - don't ask)  To be honest they all lie at times and when we do LeJog I use atlas, Terry's written instructions, my own print out as well as Tom tom

PS the speedo came in very useful when Jock's packed up
