Bought the daughter (age 16) a Dell laptop in April for her birthday and she's over the moon with it as it manages all the coursework, all the chatting she do'es to her mates and I player when she needs to catch up on tv programs ect. Prices are fair and you can dictate what you need.

I use a Compaq from PC world  and had my hard drive lock one week after the warrenty ended but they put a new hard drive in free and it's never given me a problem since as on it now and it's over 3 years olddddddddddddddd####_=,745 Opps!

Thanks everyone for all your words of wisdom. I've ordered an Acer Aspire 5741A 320GB, with the Intel Core i3-330M processor, from Argos & collecting it tomorrow . So hopefully have it all set up & running in time for the boys next batch of homework

I recommend Toshiba laptops too - I've used them for years and they seem to go on and on!  They are so robust and I have yet the break one and mine gets treated badly; taken from building site to building site and getting covered in dust and dirt.

Looks good - and the 3 year warranty is handy too.

I know a few people who have Acers and all seem pretty pleased.
