Is Attendance Allowance now a Means Tested Benefit Rita? It certainly wasn't four/five years ago when my mother received it.

I don't think it is. But I can't see either of these ladies allowing assisted personal care but one day they might have no option!

Is it just for personal care, I believe so.

It is intended to contribute to the costs of care. My Mum had carers in twice daily: a half hour in the morning, to make sure she was up & about OK; an hour later in the day, to help her shower etc. Attendance Allowance (lower rate) covered about a third of the cost.

My Mum had breathing difficulties (bl00dy fags!) and used a zimmer frame after beaking her hip.

Hi Rita no its not means tested and not solely for thise who need help with personal care  but also those who might be at risk to themselves and need supervision to ensure thier safety ive copied something from a web site

"supervision to avoid putting yourself or others in substantial danger, for example, needing someone to keep an eye on your medical condition or diet, or because you cannot control the way you behave "

I think we may be going down the road of help a little sooner than planned. Andrew's mum has become weak and feeble and shuffles around. I've been calling her "pathetic" but she has just been diagnosed with Parkinsons. Oops....

Excellent!

And Rita: The form was fourteen pages (from memory), but it was dealt with quickly and a second "pension" type payment was soon paid. Worth doing - just phone the DSS & ask. That's what I did.
