Just had the insurance renewal come through from Sureterm, they want an increase of over 71% this year to over £330>
Looks like the new owners are trying to recoup the money they spent buying Suretem from their existing customers > >
But, not from me they won't be! > > >

Try Adrian Flux. We only paid £115 for Barney and for £10 they did me a good agreed value.

Will try Adrian Flux over the next couple of days, I've insured Henri with them in the past. I tried Herts Insurance Consultants tonight who I've also used before, they wanted in excess of £300 with an £800 excess!

The £115 was without a no claims bonus!

There was a feature on TV a couple of weeks ago where they said that average insurance had gone up by around 40% this year, with young males the highest increase at 47%.

This year LazyBones' premium went up so much last year that I asked them (MINI Insurance) why and they said it was because the theft rate had gone up in my area. They offered me a slightly better price due to my "loyalty" but I ended up saving about a third by moving to Adrian Flux.

My mum's insurance went up a lot this year to over £600 for a 12 year old 1.4 Corsa with full no claims. We did look around a bit but due to her age (81) those who were prepared to quote all said much the same.

The saga continues. Contacted Adrian Flux tonight, apparently they are Herts Insurance Consultants sister company, & as I'd had a quote from HIC, they refused to  give me a quote Have now sent a list of Henri's mods to Footman James to see if they're prepared to quote me

All our classic minis are with HIC, the only problem we have is their dreadful paperwork. I'm shocked at the excess and that though! We only use them really as they do the agreed value although they wouldnt do an agreed value for the w reg sportspack saying it was too young!!! Bini is with co-op, do the confused.com thing for non agreed value cars.

My other vehicle is an 18T DAF MAN curtainsider!!

I've just had my renewal come through on Dumbo with agreed value of £15K 6000 miles myself and 3 named drivers plus a clainm delcared from a different policy (paul wrote the Golf off on the way home for the LGT) its something like £280 thats with Heritage used to be with HIC until last year when they wanted over £500 and heritage was just over £300

Nigel - how did you get on in the end?

I didn't realise that HIC and Flux were now associated companies until I read this thread - when we first went with HIC with Red Red Whine (Krakatoa in his past life) I had already tried Flux and they seemed more interested is selling a payment plan at an exorbitant interest rate for a policy than the policy itself.

I think everyone's comments just show that everyone's risk is different, depending on obvious things like age, address, sex, driving record, the car itself and probably a few other bits we wouldn't even understand.

Regarding what Karena has said we have a £225 excess with HIC on Krakatoa and Flux have done me an agreed value on LazyBones, a 52-reg.

I tried Footman James for a quote & they wanted £520, & Ieventually managed to get a quote out of Adrian Flux of £280

Then we got a call from Sureterm in the middle of last week to say that due to a computer glitch Housewife (Henri's insured in Heather's name) was now classified as a "Hazardous" Occupation, they've evidently met my boys! They've now temporarily changed her occupation to that of a Teacher whilst they fix the problem, & the premium was £179 including the agreed valuation of £5k.

So in the the actual premium has now dropped £5 from last year

I had my renewal from Footman James, it's gone up a bit too. I braved the phone queue thing and actually spoke to a human ! I tried going from an unlimited mileage policy to a 6k one but the quote was no different... how does that work ?.... went back to only 2 drivers.... no cheaper though. The only thing I can keep without an increase is my agreed value.
In my experience, phone them, don't email because they didn't reply to my mail even though I gave them a daytime number to contact me with the queries I had.
Insurance certificate arrived today.. might go out to play tomorrow.

I have a feeling my renewal is going to sting...

It's currently 300, fully comp with full no claims, 12k mileage (that's NIC's definition of "unlimited"), no agreed value and a few mods. Last renewal (Feb) saw everyone wanting at least 450 so I stuck with Graham Sykes.
