Just got back form a weekend away in Cardiff.
As many of you will know this weekedn was Mini in the Park weekend this is a show our club has attended since it strarted well after the last few years of it being at Santa Pod we decided to give it a miss we were disappointed to do this but MITP has lost it heart and Soul over the years. This year we decided to go to Minis in the Bay in cardiff well what can I say we had a great tme there were around 80 Minis/MINIS ther event consistedf of a 2 hour run arouind the local area this year taking in areas used for fiulming Gavin and Stacy we got to drive through Cardiff port and over the Barage (for Torchwood fans like myself this was pretty cool) the run ended with the Mins parking up Cardiff Bay (no not actually in the bay!) but by the parliment building etc it was a great event we stayed overnight in newport and wnet back in to Cardiff itself today before coming home
The only slight disapointment for me was I missed meeting Gwen form Torchwood by no more then 10 minutes quite fed up about that as I quite like her!
I would recomend this event to anyone

Ten years ago. You have a good memory. I think a lot of us have lost interest in MITP. How can they keep that title? Good you enjoyed your weekend.
Things move on Rita but I must say that MITP at Cornbury Park was perfect for the Event. We stopped doing it when it went to 'The Pod'. I agree with your comment.
BEAR FORCE ONE Terry is a muppet on the end of the arm of Tony Bear I LOOK, I LISTEN, I LEARN AND TAKE A STEP CLOSER TO THE FUNNY FARM EVERYDAY Bear force One. Working thrice as hard, for thrice as many children, getting to the funny farm three times as quickly Not long to go now then.

If you like COrnbury it was the site of a Mini /VW show this year not sure about next year though
That was an Andrew Greenwood Malvern/Newark type affair on the Sunday, same weekend as SkegMiniFest.
(which incidentally, and not wanting to hijack the thread *too* much, is on again next year. For OB's benefit, it's on on the 14th & 15th July, Welcome Inn, Burgh Road, Skegness, with booking available soon at http://www.skegminifest.co.uk )

Personal opinion as ever.

I agree Vince.

Thirded.
Firstly due to the "no dogs" rule due to the venue (although the last year at Cornbury there was a "no dogs" rule that everybody but us (who'd driven an extra 150 miles to drop Snowy off with my parents) just flatly ignored, and the organisers told us that it didn't really actually apply, they just had to put it on the tickets as the venue didn't want dogs there)
Secondly because I was never keen on it when it was at Silverstone.

I'm sure someone said it wasn't very well attended by either Minis or VW's the one at Cornbury not SkegMiniFest

If you liked MITP at Cornbury recommend Stanford Hall show, 11 September this year, brilliant show, great venue & at £11 per car not bad value compared to some events. Also in previous years dogs on leads are welcome.

Yes, certainly, that's SkegMiniFest (Skegness Mini Festival, a mini festival and a festival of Minis, in Skegness, at the Welcome Inn, Burgh Road, Skegness).
It's on on the 14th & 15th July 2011 and of course booking will be available soon at skegminifest.co.uk
... and some of last year's visitors said they enjoyed themselves more this year at SkegMiniFest than they did at the IMM, so we must have done something right!

I'll put it in my diary!! but please remember I was all set to come this year it was PR that had a previous booking!!!!
I agree Stanford Hall is the new MITP its a great show a really good way to end the season
We've been to Stanford Hall a few times but from here it's 40 miles of M25 and 55 miles of M1 - my least favourite road - plus a few miles at either end. Coming home after the show always tends to be especially evil.
Last time we went we were doing show'n'shine and had a really nasty journey up the motorway with fog. Then to cap it all some obnoxious native who admitted they lived just around the corner accused us of trailering our car up there. Maybe they were just trying to wind me up, but it worked.
For us there is no better way to end the season than Minis by the Sea, a really friendly albeit small meet, and it's even cheaper than Stanford Hall as it's free to get in.

Possibly because of the sheer number of trailer queens that turn up. I've never seen as many anywhere else.
And the amount of mirrors on the floor... if someone's really that interested in looking at sills that have never seen drizzle let alone been plastered with rainy road grime, they'll get on the floor and look underneath...
IMHO if all you do is polish it and drive it in and out of a covered trailer, you might as well just get one from Corgi...
(you may have guessed I'm not a fan of OCD Concours )

Thats why I have a lot of respect for people like Rita and Andrew who drive their cars but still win awards in concourse and part of the reason I set up my one facebook groups!

We've never had the urge to put mirrors under the car or to jack it up to clean underneath or inside the wheels either at home or at a show. We see quite few people drag a trolley jack out of the boot at a show so that they can whisk the wheels off for a quick clean, or even better to put on nice new ones that have travelled to the show in cling film. Maybe we're show'n'shiners rather than concours buffs?
The worst case of "trailer queening" I've seen was at MITP when it was at Cornbury and two brothers turned up with a car which rumour had it wasn't even taxed. They had a petrol-powered lawn mower in the back of the tow car and mowed their pitch first. Then they put down a checkerboard base to put the car on, and just to make sure it didn't get dirty they asked the judge to take his shoes off before stepping aboard. At least is saved them lying in sheep droppings like the rest of us when cleaning the car. The most common comment we heard from show-goers when they saw the car sounded very much like "sad baskets".
