I'm looking at getting a towbar fitted to Dumbo my Downton so we can come down to the LGT in one car next year i was going to get a Mini trailer but the steel ones are heavy and the fibreglass ones are £££££££ so looking at a light weight trailer but I need advise on tow bars how do they fit I know a company called towequipe do one (all be it for Minis up to 1998 - mines the same just 1999) and it looks like part of the fittment attaches to the rear bumper lip? P&L Minis do one but wanted some advise please. I plan to fit a chrome cover to it so it doesn't look too odd on the back of the car

Hi I am replacing the timing chain and I am unsure what tension should be put on it. When I took the cover off, the tensioner had moved away from theh chain by about 12mm so not touching it. The haynes manual says re-fit tensioner but I am not sure how firmly it needs to press on the chain if at all.

Noticed rubber boot split just before MOT. Had two spare from last mini show but old plastic type (not rubber) was 6" long and replacement rubber ones are only 4.5"long. I fiited it and it passed MOT but is on full stretch on full lock, so cannot see it lasting long. No one seems to sell the 6". Also do you fill the boot with grease or oil? Haynes appears to say either , depending upon age of car?

hi,

this cold weather has killed my mini! it wont start on its own, without being bump or jump started. there is nowhere near enough power in the battery to start the car.

i started it today after being left for a week, by jump starting it. i know that bump starting the MPi minis should be avoided as it puts unburnt fuel through the catalytic convertor.

however after running it for 20 minutes, it had to be bump started (down Orchard Hill, as it cut out on Heywood Rd roundabout) and wouldnt restart when i got home/

How do i tell if the battery needs replacing or if the alternator isnt charging the battery????? i want to use the car, but not if it wont start

Cheers, DD

I have to remove the windscreen to repair the panel. I can cut the rubber of the old seal to get the screen out as I am fitting a new seal, but what is the best/proper way to get the screeen back in?
One magazine shows just easing the rubber over with a blunt wide bladed tool a little at a time and another suggests a piece of cord or string in the groove, to pull the rubber lip over the screen edge. I have a new seal and tool to fit the bead after.
